Lewisham Unitary Development Plan
Adopted Plan – July 2004
Foreword by Councillor Gavin Moore Deputy Mayor of Lewisham
Lewisham is a vibrant and diverse London Borough, home to more than 249,000 people. Our vision is that “together we will make Lewisham the best place to live, work and learn”. This is a challenging objective. Not least among the diverse needs we are seeking to meet are the pressures and competition over scarce land and building resources. Providing for the needs of residents, business, visitors and users of our services in Lewisham in the most sustainable, efficient and effective way is the challenge of our Unitary Development Plan (UDP).
The UDP provides town planning guidance for the development and use of land and buildings throughout the borough. As such it seeks to promote Lewisham’s economic health and to protect what is best in our built and open environment.
The UDP has been through an extensive consultation process which is now complete. The policies in this document are now the adopted policies of the Council, and are being implemented now to help realise our vision for Lewisham as ‘the best place to live, work and learn’.
